How to Remove a Stain from Carpet

Ink - Ball Point Pen Stain Removal

Try This Remedy:

Step 1: Scrape or blot up excess spill.

Step 2: Apply detergent solution (see "Cleaning Solutions"), use damp towel, and leave 3-5 minutes.

Step 3: Blot-don't rub.

Step 4: Apply white vinegar (undiluted), using a damp towel.

Step 5: Apply water with damp sponge.

Step 6: Blot again. Finish by weighing down a half-inch thick pad of white paper towels to absorb all the moisture. Leave overnight if necessary.

Cleaning solutions to have on hand:

1.  Detergent: Mix 1/2 teaspoon clear dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm (not hot) water.

2.  Pre-soak Solution: Mix 1 teaspoon enzyme laundry detergent (such as Axion, Biz, or others) with one cup of water.

3.  Dry Powder Cleaner: Use powdered carpet cleaners.

4.  Dry Cleaning Solvent: Non-oily, non-caustic type sold as spot removal for garments. Caution: May be flammable.

* Note: Not all carpet fibers react the same way when treated for stains. Before proceeding with any of the preceding cleaning procedures, we recommend you contact the appropriate fiber company for their suggested maintenance guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines may void your warranty. For more information, please contact Northwest Trends Flooring America.

  • Carpet

  • Note: If your carpet has an Ultra 25a or Everguard Warranty, you must call 3M directly prior to treating any stain. Failure to do this will void your warranty.

Designing A Room Around Flooring Decisions

Flooring can help create or change the mood of any room

    flooring design

Flooring is arguably one of the most important décor components when it comes to home design. The style of floor you choose can help lay the foundation for the rest of your room. Deciding on what flooring best fits your preference and lifestyle should be the first step in any room remodel, as flooring is essentially the canvas that other parts of your room will build on.

    Flooring For Your Lifestyle

The perfect flooring should be able to withstand and fit into your lifestyle. When determining which type of flooring is right for you, it’s immensely important to consider how it will wear. If you have children or pets, choosing a durable flooring style is the best option, such as laminate flooring or even a Stainmaster® carpet. When you’ve decided on which style of flooring is best suited for your lifestyle, it’s time to decide on other components for your room’s design.

    Flooring for Atmosphere

Flooring has the ability to truly create or change the mood of any room. Depending on the look and mood that you want to create throughout your home, flooring is the first step. Dark hardwood flooring helps create a warm and often rustic aesthetic that is timeless and elegant. Conversely, light colored hardwood flooring helps open up a room and add brightness. The same holds true for other flooring styles when it comes to color. Rich and dark colors are perfect for larger rooms, as they add drama and create a more intimate mood. Light colors are ideal for smaller rooms, and can often even make your room appear larger. After your preferred color is decided, choosing accents, furniture and other décor elements is much simpler.

    Flooring For a Focal Element

Flooring can either be the star of the room, or simply a backdrop for other design elements. It’s important to decide right out of the gate if you want your flooring to be the focal element of your room’s design, or simply a neutral canvas for which furnishing and accessories will be the star. If you decide to use flooring as the main focal point of your room, consider rich hardwoods or decorate tile flooring. The beauty of these flooring styles is sure to help you achieve your goal. If you want your flooring to be a blank canvas that allows other elements to pop, consider neutral colored carpet and add bold elements throughout the room that will catch the eye.

    CREATIVE IDEAS FOR TILE FLOORING

    Creative ideas for tile flooring

    tile flooring patterns

When it comes to tile flooring, don’t feel limited to the basic grid of square tiles. Tile flooring opens the door to exciting design possibilities that add a unique and beautiful breath of fresh air into your home. There are many different types of tile flooring patterns that can be done with a little “outside-of-the-box” thinking. Here are a few of Northwest Trends favorites:

    Classic Checkerboard

Perhaps one of the most popular tile flooring patterns, and for good reason, tile flooring installed in a checkerboard pattern is timeless, but can also add a retro look to your home. To achieve a checkerboard floor tile design, it doesn’t necessarily matter what two colors you choose, as long as they are equal squares in size.

    Beyond Borders

Creating a tile border is fairly simple, but it’s sure to add an elegant touch to your tile flooring project. A patterned tile often makes the best border choice, but a different color tile will also do the trick. The first step in achieving a stunning tile border is picking the basic floor tiles that your border will surround. Once the basic tiles are chosen, decide on a different style of tile to create a truly original border for your home.

    Brick and Beautiful

The brick floor tile pattern is extremely popular, and exudes a beautiful subway style look. Perfect for anyone who wants to add a modern twist to their home’s décor, the brick tile floor pattern is sure to add a stunning upgrade to your home’s overall look. To achieve this pattern, the tile flooring must be laid in diagonal lines with the edges of the tile equal in width.

When it comes to installation tile flooring in patterns, the patterns can play a huge role on how the size of the room is perceived. Larger tiles call much attention to them, and can even make a large room appear even larger. Small tile floor patterns can look lost in larger rooms, and are much better for smaller rooms. Unique tile flooring patterns not only beautify your room, but can truly add significant resale value. Northwest Trends Flooring America is proudly able to offer you the highest-quality tile flooring at the lowest prices on the market, with over 500 stores nationwide, achieving beautiful tile flooring patterns is easy when you choose Northwest Trends Flooring America.

Laminate Flooring vs. Hardwood Flooring: The Great Debate

Laminate Flooring vs. Hardwood Flooring: The Great Debate
    Laminate Vs. Hardwood infographic
Warmth, natural beauty and timeless appeal have made hardwood flooring one of the most sought-after amenities for homes across the country. Laminate flooring, which is crafted using a High Density Fiber (HDF) with a top layer that offers a similar look, gives consumers an alternative to solid wood. If you’re trying to figure out whether hardwood or laminate is right for your home, consider the pros and cons of each and how they relate to your lifestyle and your budget.

    Price
When choosing between hardwood and laminate flooring, consider both the price and the quality of the investment. Laminate is popular for its affordability, and it can cost a few dollars per square foot all the way up to 50% less than hardwood when you include installation. Premium laminate products can have moderate resale value, while well-maintained hardwood floors can increase the resale value of your home exponentially.

    Installation
With locking, glue-down or floating installation options, laminate floors are usually easy to install (or uninstall if you’re replacing your floor). Some solid hardwood floors require nail-down installation, which can be time-consuming and make future removal more difficult. However, with current technology, many popular hardwood options are now available in engineered forms that require installation similar to that of laminate.

    Maintenance
Laminate and hardwood floors are both relatively easy to clean, but they differ in maintenance requirements. Most laminates are more resistant to moisture, fading and scratches, so they can be a better choice for kitchens or bathrooms where a lot of water is used, spaces that receive a lot of sunlight, or areas that face high levels of foot traffic. Then again, if damaged, laminate floors might not be easy to repair, while you can fix imperfections in hardwood floors by sanding or refinishing.

    Durability
You can keep hardwood and laminate floors looking beautiful for years, but the difference between them becomes more pronounced as time goes on. With proper care, the life expectancy for most laminate flooring is about 20 years. Well-kept hardwood flooring can last a lifetime and add classic appeal to any home for generations.
Once you’ve made your decision, come to Flooring America for an unmatched selection of top-quality hardwood or laminate. Our prices are the lowest in the market, and our industry-leading warranties will give you total confidence in your new floor.

    Rustic Hardwood Flooring

Rustic Hardwood Flooring: Four Ways to Choose the Right One For You

    http://www.nwtrendsspokanefa.com/rustic-hardwood-flooring
Rustic hardwood flooring provides the perfect foundation for cottage or country-style spaces. Its natural beauty and lived-in appeal brings a sense of warmth and comfort to any room. Northwest Trends Flooring America offers a wide range of rustic hardwood floors, including collections from top name brands like Downs® Performance and Design Distinctions™. If you’re trying to decide which type of rustic hardwood flooring suits your home, there are four things you should know about:

    1. Types

Hickory, maple and walnut are particularly popular species for rustic hardwood floors, but you can find them in many others as well (some in solid or engineered form). All have prominent graining and variations that provide a natural look, but there may be differences in durability and maintenance. Some many require frequent cleaning and care, while others like Downs® Performance Merengue Rustic Hickory, Maple, Walnut and Cherry are backed by powerful warranties against scuffs and stains.

    2. Characteristics

The unique details of rustic hardwood flooring can create a worn look, timeless appeal, and even a sense of history. Hand scraping and distressing produce marks one might have found on a floor crafted by artisans many years ago. Stippling and chatter marks produce a distinctive texture and appearance. Plus, these accents can help to camouflage wear and tear from heavy foot traffic. The rich details of Northwest Trends Flooring America’s Design Distinctions™ Hawser Rustic Hickory, Walnut and Ash floors give each plank rich character and exceptional durability.

    3. Colors

The color of a rustic hardwood floor can accentuate the wood’s natural look, show off its graining and fine details, or give it a warmer feel to make your space seem cozier. You can find rustic hardwood flooring in an array of different colors and finishes to suit your style. Design Distinctions™ Rustic Hickory, for example, is available in a number of colors, ranging from light chestnut or country to dark chocolate or charcoal.

    4. Price

Rustic hardwood floors may be pricier than other floors, but it makes a smart investment for any homeowner. These floors not only beautify your room, but can also add significant resale value to your home. Plus, with the buying power of more than 500 stores nationwide, Northwest Trends Flooring America is able to offer you the highest-quality rustic hardwood flooring at the lowest prices that won't break the budget.

    Spokane Home Prices Increases

     — Washington's housing market continued to improve in the third quarter, with the number of sales and the median price climbing from the same period last year.
That's according to a report released Wednesday by the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Washington.
The report says that in the July to September quarter, the number of existing home sales rose 30 percent from a year ago. It reached the highest sales rate since the second quarter of 2007.
Limited supply and strong demand pushed the median price for a home to $264,300, an increase of 8.4 percent compared to a year ago.
