Northwest Trends Flooring America wants to keep you safe this Labor Day Weekend

Tips to help keep you safe and ensure a happy vacation:

1.  Don't drink and drive! Common wisdom and AAA projections agree that Labor Day will see more drivers on the road than ever, with 85 percent of vacationers traveling by car. So don't add any more worries by drinking and driving.

2.  Check for recalls. Since many travelers will be making their trek via car, it's important to check if your car's manufacturer has issued a safety recall. You should have received notice, but it never hurts to double check.

3.  Snag a first aid kit. Even if you're not planning on doing anything dangerous, your vehicle should be equipped with, among other things, a basic first aid kit. They retail for about $10 and may give you some piece of mind.

4.  Get updated proof of insurance. A ticket for driving without valid or sufficient insurance, especially from out of state, is a major pain and entirely avoidable. Shove an updated copy of your proof of insurance into the glove box before you disembark.

5.  Leave early... or really late. If you want to hit the road today (Friday), try to get on the highway either much before or far after rush hour. That's leaving either before 4 p.m. or after 10 p.m., USA Today advises.

6.  Obey cell phone laws. Your Labor Day weekend road trip may have you crossing into unfamiliar states, where talking or the phone or texting while driving is illegal. Look up the laws before you leave and try to avoid messing with your phone.

7.  Secure your updated passport/ID. For those travelers who are headed to the airport, secure your up-to-date passport and/or driver's license before you get there. Some countries may not allow you entry if your passport expires in six months.

8.  Pack travel-sized liquids. Remember the TSA's guidelines on liquids in your carry-ons. You don't want airport security to toss your 5-ounce bottle of expensive cologne in the trash.

9.  Don't bring pot to the airport. Marijuana may be legal in your state, but it is still illegal under federal law.

10.  Limit your drinking before your flight. Too many drinks at the airport Chili's may keep your intoxicated keister from getting on the plane or spending the Labor Day weekend in jail.

Follow these tips and have a safe and legal worry-free Labor Day vacation!

Tile & Lighting in Bathrooms Gives a Designer Look

Doric, Inc.
Northwest Trends Tile
Whether you are remodeling or building a new home you owe it to yourself to explore the tile and lighting options available today. The bathroom featured here was constructed by Doric Inc., and surface materials including countertops and tile were provided by Northwest Trends. Under cabinet lights provide dramatic and practical illumination to the hard-to-reach nooks of your kitchen, office, or storage space. They are a great way to illuminate counter or work space without adding more ambient light to the area. When selecting an under cabinet light, decide what style will best compliment your home. There are fluorescent under cabinet lights, accent lights, puck lights and standard under cabinet lights. Different fixtures will require different types of bulbs, from LED to halogen bulbs. Puck lights are small round lights that can be easily affixed by screw mount bracket or tape to the underside of a cabinet. Plug-in designs can be hung in a series and powered by an included power cord; while battery operated styles can be hung individually, making them perfect for small places like medicine cabinets and closets.

For an easy-to-install option, customers are increasingly turning to puck lights and light tape. These designs adapt to fit most spaces, adhere quickly to your cabinets, and are easy to power without the help of an electrician. Tape lights are a relatively new design. With a peel-and-stick adhesive backing, these LED lights can be cut to size and easily mounted to fit your space. Try them using as a permanent under cabinet solution or for party lighting or even outdoor decks.
