Keeping Your Home Clean During the Winter Season

With snow and ice storms upon us, dirt, snow and salt are all being tracked into our homes. While snowstorms can be peaceful and beautiful, it has the opposite effect on your home and floors when it’s tracked inside by your family and friends
Image
Along with winter debris, dry, winter air affects both your health and your floors.  When humidity levels are low, contraction and gapping can occur in your floors, making it important to keep temperatures warm and dry in your home to prevent this

To keep your floors clean and free of any scratches or rot, place doormats and rugs at every entrance in your home. This keeps most of the dirt and salt from entering your house, and leaves you with less of a mess to clean up. If kids or neighbors track winter debris past your entrance, sweeping and vacuuming regularly are a great way to keep up with the winter conditions.
Image
Winter also affects the outside of your home, which can leave you victim to frozen pipes and no power. Make sure to always store an emergency kit in your home, consisting of flashlights, batteries, candles, non-perishable food, and plenty of warm clothing and blankets.

While your kids and pets enjoy frolicking in the snow, we have your home covered with our Resista cleaning products. Ranging from cleaning pads, powders and sprays, we have every cleaning product that your home needs to withstand the harsh, winter conditions.

Best flooring for your space

The kitchen is one of the most valued rooms in a family’s home, so it’s not surprising that it is also one of the rooms that a family is willing to spend the extra money to makeover. If you’re looking to give your kitchen a new look starting with your floors, there are several factors that are important to consider, such as whether or not you have an open floor plan, and how often the kitchen will be used.

For those that spend a great amount of time entertaining and cooking in the kitchen, vinyl is the best choice for flooring. Both waterproof and stain proof, vinyl is also the easiest to maintain, requiring only a mop and a broom. Vinyl is budget and foot friendly, as it is the softest hard surface option, making it easier on both your feet and your wallet.

PURstone Luxury Vinyl Tile in the style Emperador Travertine.

Tile, the toughest flooring that can handle anything that is dragged or dropped on the floor, is low maintenance and stain-resistant, which is great for those families with animals or young children who are prone to spilling drinks and food.

Design Distinctions Tile in the style Cooper

With warmth and visual appeal comes hardwood, which is low maintenance, moisture resistant, and simply never goes out of style. For those with an open floor plan, hardwood is the perfect option, as it allows for a smooth transition from your kitchen to the connecting rooms.

Downs Performance Hardwood in the style Kinetic

What type of flooring do you most like to see in kitchens?

For more information on any of theses floors or a free in home estimate call 509.921.9677 or visit our showroom at 11315 E. Montgomery Dr. Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Located between Pines & Argonne in the valley.

Spooktacular Halloween Décor

Spooktacular Halloween Décor

We are days away from one of the most beloved holidays of the year. It’s a day when children can dress up as their favorite cartoon character, action hero, or sports athlete, and let the joys of childhood take over. Adults can dress the part too, in hopes of giving a little scare to the trick-or-treaters or at their own adult Halloween party.

Halloween is the time of year to let your inner child out, no matter your age. You can decorate your home both inside and out to evoke the spirit of Halloween. Pumpkins can be carved and lit up on your front steps, or painted and decorated with glitter for your side table. Bottles can be painted in black or army green, and decorated with silver or black glitter to depict bottles of potion or poison, depending on your desired level of scare.

A friendly front entrance to your home can be created with simple pumpkins, corn stalk, and hay, while you can up the scare for a terrifying entrance by draping cobwebs on your front porch, railings, windows and door. Ravens can be placed in the cobwebs, on the corn stalk, and around the porch for an added fright.

With terrifying entrances, scary costumes, and endless amounts of candy, kids and adults are bound to drop a piece of candy on the carpet, step on candy that’s been sprawled out on the floor to take inventory of their night’s haul, or a glass of wine might be spilled at a party. Whatever the reason for Halloween spills, we have you covered with our Resista cleaning products. Ranging from cleaning pads and cleaning powder, to carpet cleaner and pet cleaner, we have various tools and cleaners to assist with your cleaning.

Check out our website for more stain removal tips and visit our store to find approved cleaning products for your floors.

Chris McCuaig

In 2013 Chris McCuaig joined Northwest Trends Flooring America’s Commercial & Residential Sales team. Hiring Chris was a natural fit as he grew up working on new residential construction projects with his father’s company installing tile and countertops. During college Chris worked as a flooring specialist at The Home Depot and congruently ran his own tile and counter top installation company. Before joining Northwest Trends, Chris directed the sales activities for a local contractor in North Idaho. For the past 6 years he cultivated partnerships with architects, home builders, and home owners helping with design build solutions for their projects. Equipped with years of experience building sales and managing accounts Chris continued to grow his client base by listening to the client’s needs and desires. Chris says, “I try to look at every project through the eyes of the customer. Every client is different and so are their expectations. I work diligently to make sure all the customers’ needs and desires are met by taking the job from concept to completion. I find many of my clients are visual thinkers so the use CAD and 3D renderings during a design build project help tremendously convey design concepts and expectations. The use of 3D design ultimately allows the customers visions to take form and become a reality.” Loyal customers result from satisfied customers and Chris’s ultimate goal is to have repeated and referral customers for many years to come. Northwest Trends is excited to have Chris be a part of our growing team. We know he will add much value in the coming years. To set up an appointment or contact Chris email him at Chris@northwest-trends.com or call 509-921-9677ext 33.
